If you don’t know about Google Alerts, then do sign up.  You can get Google Alerts on just about anything under the sun!  If you are researching, then it’s a fabulous tool – you can go through a lot of information in one week to find just what you are looking for – give it a try!

COOK GOOD FOOD TO SAVE TIME!

I see line ups at fast food places – people don’t mind standing in line and yet in the time it takes to stand in line, people could have 2 or 3 or more meals made!  How?  Roasting.  Slow cooking in a slow cooker.  Stews.  Curries.  Casseroles. and making double the meals when you prepare your dinner.

You can roast meat and vegetables – you don’t even have to peel most vegetables especially root vegetables like carrots, parsnips, beets, turnips, potatoes – just wash them very well and roast with a less expensive cut of meat – saves not only time but money.  Just set the timer on your over to start in the afternoon or throw everythign in to a slow cooker and by dinner time, your meal is ready. 

Make enough for hot lunch to take to work and/or another dinner later that week.  Same goes for casseroles – just put everything together, put it in a casserole dish in the oven, set the timer and it’s done when you get home!   The bonus is that you can prepare these the night before, put them in the fridge, just before you leave put them in the oven and voila!  a great dinner!

It tastes great, its nutritious, it’s less expensive than fast food and you don’t have to stand in line!

BUYING LESS SAVES TIME!

Buy less and you’ll save a lot of time!  What do I mean?

People’s garages, basements, attics, etc. collect  a lot of “stuff” which people are likely to never use again – you’ve seen it on TV – mounds of stuff.

Did you notice on the “make-over” shows how much time having “stuff” consumes?  Searching for things you want among the things you don’t want any more – moving boxes from one place to the next – the many hours spend in an attempt to “clean things up”.

So next time you’re at the store and you’re tempted to buy something, think first:  “I’m I really going to use this thing?  If so, when?  Right now?”  If the answer is not now then wait to buy it.

SLEEP – YOUR BEST TIME SAVER!

Most people think it’s quite alright to deprive themselves of sleep – it’s usually the first to go when life becomes hectic – it’s the last thing that should!

I hear all the protests now!  Yes, I did it too!  I thought – I can do without sleep – I’ve got so much to do!  Wrong!  I couldn’t have been more wrong.

One time I was so sleep deprived studying a programming language, I started to literally bounce off the walls going down a hallway!  I knew then that trying to solve the riddles and staying up night after night had put me in jeopardy – can you imagine if I had been driving a car??!!

Sleep is the best thing you can do for time management.  Why?  Because you can accomplish much more energized and clear thinking than you can half asleep, yawning, running to the coffee machine every hour on the hour and trying to concentrate when the brain just needs rest.

You don’t believe me – likely – you can prove it to yourself.  One day when you are well rested, notice how well things go – relationships, tasks, resolving problems, facing obstacles, having fun, etc.

Now, one day you’ll have one of those days when you just couldn’t sleep – notice how slow your reactions are, the down mood you feel, iritation with others, how long it takes to get the simplest tasks done and how difficult even reading becomes.

Time management is not always about hours – it’s how to treat yourself!

START YOUR MORNING IN A GREAT MOOD!

One of the best ways to start your working day is in a great mood!

Can it happen always, every day?  Yes. 

You’re kidding, right? you say – I’m not.  

Some mornings I used to be tired, grumpy and feeling like “I really don’t want to face this day”.  Then, I learned, from my cockatiels – every day they get up, they sing and they’re happy!  They love the routine and look forward to their fresh water, toast, millet, lettuce and sometimes cheese.  So I tried it!  No, not the millet but I found things that I look forward to every morning – I did it and it made a big difference.

So then I thought there must be something at my desk that I can do to get the day off on the right foot! 

So every day now I take a few minutes to start my day doing something I like to do – coffee and reading Google Alerts.  Why?  Because Google Alerts really gets my creativity going seeing all the wonderful things people are doing, creating, inventing, talking about – it’s refreshing.

Pick something you like to do which gives you a lift at any time of the day and start your work day with those activities.  It only takes a few minutes – 10 or 15 minutes every morning but the benefits are huge all day long!  Try it – I know you’ll like it!
