SOUNDING BOARD COACHING
Need to talk to someone?
Need a “sounding board”?
Need some inspiration too?
Let me be the one . . . .
We can all save a tremendous amount of time by hiring a personal coach. Often we have worries or concerns and simply don’t have anyone in our sphere who can help us.
We all need someone impartial to talk to sometimes. Someone who:
- has no preconceived ideas of who or what we are and someone who
- has no vested interest in whatever they say to us or not.
Whether it’s a work, family or personal issue, getting an unbiased perspective can be all we need to move on.
Especially at work and in family situations, we must be careful what you say to whom. Relationships can change for a number of reasons – what might have seemed like a solid relationship at one point, turns sour because of something which was said or done; the other person had a different take on it.
Work Issue: Why shouldn’t we talk to colleagues about your boss or other people in the company or the company itself? Because we want to keep your job!
Confiding in a work colleague can be a very bad idea.
Some colleagues’ ambitions are so great that they will use any piece of information against anyone they see as a competitor. We can’t know ahead of time which person that will be because it’s not until the pressure is on do true colors show.
Sometimes, we can have a disagreement. The differences are irreconcilable. How will the other person use the private information shared? How will we? Out of spite, we might say the wrong thing to the wrong person.
It’s a good idea to ”keep your cards close to your chest” which means not divulging personal thoughts to colleagues no matter how compatible they may seem. It’s amazing how people can change when the stakes are high enough!
The best route? The best route is not to create close relationships at work – discuss nothing but sports! You know what I mean – topics of common interest which do not include work. Be friendly, pleasant and do the best work possible – make friends elsewhere.
So who can we talk to? spouse? parents? friends? They’re not impartial. They might not deliver the message we need to hear. They like you and have a vested interest in keeping you in their lives.
That’s where Sounding Board Coaching comes in. You can speak freely and openly without reservation.
Home issue: Sometimes, we feel boxed in because we really can’t talk to anyone about what’s going on at home. It’s not a good idea to involve other family members because they’ll either take sides or pass on their interpretation to other family members – either way it makes the situation worse.
And sometimes, it’s an issue that we don’t want to talk to friends about either. It’s just not something comfortable divulging the issue.
Or we have talked the issue to death - our spouse is tired of hearing about it and so are other members of the family and friends. They simply can’t help. Either they don’t have the tools or they just don’t want to get involved.
Or we have to tell our spouse something - we just don’t know how. We need someone to bounce ideas off first. It’s way too personal to talk to family and friends.
Sounding Board Coaching may be the help you need.
Personal Issues: We all have times when we feel we just can’t talk about something to anyone we know. But we know we need help with it. We don’t need a psychologist or a psychiatrist – just a place to air it out and get some feedback. And we want to know that the issue will be kept confidential.
Sounding Board Coaching is there – to listen — to help.
Who am I to suggest that I could help you? Ever since I was in grade school, I was the go-to person to get help. Throughout my life, that has never changed. And I do help because I care enough about other people to be honest and open with them, assisting them to see the options and pick the right one for them. I have no magical powers, I just listen and “hear” things you are saying and not saying, impartially.
I charge a reasonable rate. Does it mean I don’t have the expertise or that I’m not as good as other coaches charging large fees? No. It means good value to you for my services. My clients have always enjoyed good value and I like it that way – happy clients. Personal coaching is about helping you to resolve your resolving personal issues, not business advice.
I want to give you value right from day one. How many other bookings you make with me, doesn’t matter. What matters is value for the dollars you invest!
I fully understand what the industry standards are – I was a Director of an international coaching program and I coach internationally. People say that a good coach is worth the money. I think so too but not crazy sums of money. If I were paying anyone $5000 or $10000 per hour it would have to give me a hefty return in my business! If people asks me to coach them in business, my fee is much higher.
An hour goes by quite fast. I charge you $60 per hour or portion thereof – period. Whether it’s an hour or 15 minutes, the cost is $60. If you want more than an hour, it’s still $60 per hour for the hour or any portion of that time which goes into the second hour. No freebies. No introductory promotions. Just an honest price for an honest service rendered – for one hour or two hours or whatever you have paid me. Yes, payment is required in advance through PayPal – see button below. Sessions need to be precisely one hour because I have other clients waiting.
I ask you to be prepared. Know what you want to talk about. Ask for what you need. It helps if you jot down a few notes ahead of time.
Sounding Board Coaching is about feeback – honest, straight feedback. I’m not a psychologist, therapist, psychiatrist – if you want those kinds of services, then you know where to get them.
